Description
A signed, slipcased copy of Pictures from the New World, Danny Lyon's photographic journey through the Americas, accompanies this gelatin-silver print.

An unusual autobiography, Lyon's Pictures is a pictorial equivalent to Walt Whitman's compendium of his roaming through a grand but divided America of a previous century, or to Jack Kerouac's record of his impassioned journey on the road of a previous generation.

About the Artist

Danny Lyon (b. 1942, Brooklyn, New York) received a BA from the University of Chicago in 1973. His 1971 portfolio Conversations with the Dead portrayed the lives of convicts in Texas prisons, and he has continued to focus on photographing those who live outside society’s mainstream. His films include Little Boy (1977), Los Niños Abandonados (1975), and Social Sciences 127 (1969). Lyon’s work has been frequently exhibited and collected; he is the recipient of a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship and National Endowment for the Arts grants in both film and photography.
