Photography Is Magic Playing Cards

Aperture is pleased to offer a very special set of Photography Is Magic limited-edition playing cards.

Poker cards and card tricks play a central role in Charlotte Cotton’s publication Photography Is Magic (Aperture, 2015). “Close-up magic—the kind of intimate, right-in-front-of-you sleight of hand that brings pure wonder and delight—is the inspiration for this book, which gathers the work and words of more than eighty artists operating in the related field of photographic magic,” Cotton writes in her essay for the book.

Cotton goes on to explain that “the typical tools of close-up magicians are decks of poker-size playing cards, coins, cups, and balls. The magicians’ flourishes and misdirections are played out on and above green baize tabletops.” Featuring images by thirty-two artists included in Photography Is Magic, we hope to bring wonder and delight through this special, limited-edition set of playing cards.
