Description

Clifford Ross’s Hurricane series is an explosive sequence of photographs taken on the edge of hurricanes. Ross provides an incredible, heuristic journey, from the ecstatic formalism of ocean waves to the abstract sublime of pure light. The photogravure, Hurricane I, by master printer Lothar Osterburg, is the striking first image from this series. Hurricane I is offered along with a limited-edition book entitled Wave Music (Aperture, 2005) that also features Ross’s Horizon and Grain series.

About the Artist

Clifford Ross (b. 1952, New York, NY) is a photographer and multimedia artist who is consistently at the forefront of inventing and reinventing tradition and new media. He received a BA in Art and Art History for Yale University in 1974. Ross started his Hurricane series in 1996, adjusting the focus of his practice on forms and movements of water.
