Description
Coinciding with The Photographer in the Garden, Aperture is pleased to present a series of limited-edition prints by artists featured in the book. Collect both Jacqueline Hassink prints at a special discount here! "Visiting Kyoto for the first time in 2001, I was fascinated by the gardens in the northern hills of the city. Viewing nature from a low viewpoint inside a Buddhist temple and while seated on a wooden veranda is an experience unique to Japanese architecture. The absence of windows leads the visitor to perceive space in a new way, with no border between the private and public realm. I wanted to create a series of photographs exploring this undefined border between private and public space by photographing the garden from deep inside the temple, balancing the areas of the tatami/meditation space and the garden space equally in the image." —Jacqueline Hassink
