Behind the Walls by Paulo Ventura

Aperture is pleased to offer this limited-edition artist book by Paolo Ventura. Behind the Walls is limited to and edition of 240 book box sets. Presented inside a hand painted cardboard box are 6 individual unbound pages, one gatefold and two folded poster sized pages. This series, the first in which the artist turns to digital technology, introduces a new character into his work - that of himself. Here, the artist stages images of himself in character into his elaborate sets.

Paolo Ventura (born in Milan, 1968) studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan in the early 1990s. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at Forma International Center for Photography, Milan; Rencontres de la Photographie, Arles, France; Fotomuseum Den Haag, Netherlands; and Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris. In 2011, his work was included in the 54th Venice Biennial, Italian pavilion, Vencie, Italy. Ventura is represented by Hasted Kraeutler, New York. He lives and works in Italy.
